HRSG Feedwater Heater Retrofit |
Location:
|
Kalaeloa Cogen Partners, L.P., Kalaeloa,Hawaii |
Synopsis: This project
was to retrofit feedwater heater panels into the stack inlet duct of two (2) Deltak Heat
Recovery Steam Generators. Located on the island of Oahu, Hawaii this presented Bremco,
Inc. with a variety of challenges. Bremco, Inc. would be responsible for construction
management and supervision coordinating the necessary craft trades, equipment, tooling,
subcontracting and materials. Logistical dispatching was coordinated from Bremco, Inc's
home office in Claremont, New Hampshire. The purpose of the
feedwater heaters is to increase the temperature of condensate and fresh water makeup
flowing through the internal heater by extracting temperature from the flue gas
surrounding the exterior tube surfaces of the heater. The water would be increased from 90
degree F to 175 degree F prior to sending it to the deaerator feedwater storage tank. The
ultimate gain in temperature will provide an increase in overall thermal efficiency
resulting in additional power generation.
Feedwater Heater Tube Panel Installation:
- Install all required structural steel pedestal supports within the
interior breeching space. Extend all pedestal supports through lower duct wall panels and
secure to existing structural steel and concrete foundations.
- Modify all existing internal breeching supports to allow the
required spacing for tube panel clearances.
- Install five (5) new sootblower wall boxes per unit to allow for
future sootblowers.
- Modify the top breeching and provide access for the installation of
two (2) tube panels per unit. Install access door assemblies to allow for future
inspections and periodic cleaning.
- Install a tube panel water wash spray system to allow for scheduled
water wash cleaning.
- Install two (2) tube panels per unit weighing approximately 17,000
lbs each.
- Install upper and lower internal gas baffles to ensure the direction
of all flue gases through the tube panel assembly.
- Fabricate and install 2205 alloy piping between each panel inlet and
outlet headers to within 12" outside the exterior HRSG casing.
- Install pipe casing bellows seals at each casing penetration.

Condensate Feedwater Piping
- Fabricate and install all required condensate feedwater piping
between the deaerator located at the top of the steam turbine building and each HRSG unit.
Fabricate all required pipe support structural assemblies and
install along the existing pipe bridge running from the turbine building to each HRSG.
Supply and return piping to each HRSG unit totaling 150 to 300 feet respectively.
Provide a quality control program consisting of all pipe weld
inspection and NDE. Provide hydrostatic testing of all pipe and panel assemblies.
Provide all pipe insulation and lagging.

Pipe bridge with supply and return condensate
piping installed.
